New interests in the legislation resulted from the aftermath of the Las Vegas massacre where mass gun shooting was experienced in a concert. On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, S.A Miller of Washington Times indicated that a Congress member, Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, introduced the bill to allow ban of silencers and bump stocks that automates guns. Feinstein explained that many people were killed due to permission to modify legal weapons thus making them more dangerous. The Republican Congress members however resisted the new gun-control measures dubbed the Automatic Gun Fir e Prevention Act. Texas Congressman, Henry Cuellar, said in an interview that gun control laws do not work, and that people are responsible. He held that the Las Vegas incident was a criminal act.
